IT’S PARTY TIME!

Cocktail party:  A gathering held to enable forty people to talk about themselves at the same time.
The man who remains after the liquor is gone is the host.
~Fred Allen (1894-1956)

MAYBE . . .
. . . that’s why Super Bowl Parties are so much fun: the game provides a distraction from the small and self-centered talk that fills the conversations of most parties.  It’s no secret that men prefer less talking to more, and the Super Bowl provides welcome relief from loquacious expectations.  Less chit chat + comfortable clothing + lots of food with the tv on; it’s small wonder why this is one party men always look forward to.  It may be their idea of heaven.

The day is here and you’ve got things under control in direct proportion the amount of things you’ve prepared beforehand.  I always look forward to the day of a party because, with all of the heavy lifting behind, I can focus on non-kitchen details like arranging flowers, setting the table, and filling platters and bowls with new concoctions.  It’s so nice to welcome friends in from the cold with cider simmering on the stove, the aroma of cinnamon and cloves greeting them at the door.

It took some years before I learned how to really enjoy my own parties because I was always preparing things up until the last moment,  frantically applying last-minute touches as guests began to arrive.  But — through years of practice — I learned to plan ahead, slow down as the hour approached, and actually attend the event I had spent so much time and effort preparing for.  Catering helped my planning skills and, with practice, I saw improvements and became more confident.

So enjoy your SBXLIV Party, your guests and the game.  Everybody wins!
