LABELS 101

RELATED POST MAR 18th:  WHO DO THEY THINK THEY’RE KIDDING?

This is an exercise in deciphering the things that you are feeding yourself and your family.  Go on the internet and look up those things that you are not familiar with.  A  good rule of thumb is to search for the term or food on Wikipedia.org, and then lfind the same term in two other places.  Because information found on the internet is not always 100% reliable, if you can find the same data on three different sites you will have a very good chance of getting the straight scoop.  When you find divergent information, keep looking until you can verify the facts from three sources.

  1. Take something out of your pantry.  Read the label.  Look up every ingredient so that you can see exactly what is in the food products that you are buying.
  2. Look up the term ‘natural’ as used in the food industry.  Natural means something other than what you may think.
  3. Make a list of things that you find that you do not want to eat or feed to your family.  Print out the list and have it laminated.  Put it in your wallet or purse or on your keychain so that you can access it when you go shopping.
